Kelsey-Seybold staff and the North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of the new North Channel Clinic with a Sept. 23 outdoor ribbon cutting. Clinic providers and staff greeted Chamber leaders and members, gave a tour of the new clinic, and shared refreshments after the ribbon cutting that officially welcomed the clinic to the North Channel community.
The clinic has been open for a month and already had a positive reception from the community, said Jackie Baker, Clinic Administrator, North Channel Clinic. The clinic sees roughly seven to 10 new patients a day, in addition to longtime Kelsey-Seybold patients, Baker said.
“The reception since we’ve opened has been tremendous. Having the clinic near the freeway is so convenient and fills a great need in the community. Patients are excited, and so are we,” Baker said. “We are growing every day.”
Kelsey-Seybold Clinic gifted Chamber members and leaders hand sanitizer, stress balls, sunscreen, and customized cookies as part of the ribbon cutting celebration.
“I spoke to someone recently who said she was changing her insurance so she could go to Kelsey-Seybold,” North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce President and C.E.O. Margie Buentello said. “Kelsey-Seybold is making such a difference in the area.”
Chamber members commented on the growth in the area and how the clinic fills a critical need in the community.
“We don’t have a hospital, so we are in an area with a big medical need,” North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Yesenia Doyal said. “I love to see how the clinic gives people the option of high-quality healthcare close to home.”
The event ended with a tour of the new facility. The new clinic currently houses two primary care doctors: Adam Mitchell, M.D., Managing Physician, and John Ruelas, M.D., Family Medicine, and has space for two more doctors who could be specialty doctors, said Alvin Payne, Regional Clinic Administrator, North Channel and Summer Creek clinics.
“We’re always looking for ways to fit in new patients, as we are full every day. It’s great to have such a good response to the clinic, even as it is so new,” Dr. Mitchell said.
