Kelsey-Seybold extended a warm welcome to patients during the new North Channel Clinic opening

On Aug. 23, Kelsey-Seybold celebrated the much-anticipated opening of its North Channel Clinic. Patients living nearby and residents of North Channel now have a convenient location close to home and work. “I’m very eager and excited for Kelsey-Seybold to offer care in a new area of town where, in some cases, patients would have had to travel long distances to see a Kelsey-Seybold provider,” said Cecilia Fowler, the Senior Director of Ambulatory Clinics – North Region.

Opening our doors, connecting with the community

The new 7,500-square-foot clinic is conveniently located at 5820 E. Sam Houston Parkway N. in The Shops at Stone Park with plenty of parking available right in front of the clinic. Clinic Administrator Jackie Baker greeted patients, many of whom live within a mile of the clinic. “With the foot traffic from the nearby shops and restaurants, we’re going to be able to connect with many community members who didn’t have access to our brand of care before today,” Jackie said.

On opening day, patients received complimentary sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and wet wipes. The first patient of the day, Sandra Harrell, lives five minutes from the new clinic. Already a loyal Kelsey-Seybold patient, Sandra used to drive to Pasadena Clinic for her healthcare. She believes the North Channel Clinic will benefit the community. “As far as I know, there aren’t many doctors around here, so this will help people living in this community get the care they need,” she said.

Sandra Harrell, the first patient at Kelsey-Seybold’s North Channel Clinic, is a North Channel resident who previously commuted to Kelsey-Seybold’s Pasadena Clinic.

Focused on primary care

“We’re a primary care facility, but close to our Pasadena and Summer Creek clinics, so it’s an easy trip for North Channel patients to see a specialist if needed,” said Adam Mitchell, M.D., managing physician at the North Channel clinic.

In his 13 years with Kelsey-Seybold, Dr. Mitchell has worked at several locations, including Summer Creek and Clear Lake. He has had patients from these clinics follow him to North Channel, as it is closer to home and work. “I love for my patients to have the convenience of healthcare so close to home and work.”

On the first day, the clinic was nearly full from walk-in patients looking for more information about the clinic. Representatives from the local Chamber of Commerce also stopped by to celebrate the opening and toured the bright, airy, and modern clinic.

“This is an open and accepting environment, where patients can feel welcome and comfortable,” said John Ruelas, M.D., Family Medicine, who joins North Channel Clinic. “Our goal is to always improve access and quality. By opening a location in the North Channel area, we’ll be better able to deliver on those goals for our patients.”
