As Kelsey-Seybold Clinic celebrates National Nurses Week from May 6 through 12, our leaders reflect on the many contributions our nurses make and how they impact patient care.
“Whether providing treatment, patient education, or case management, our nurses work tirelessly to help restore patients to health,” said Tony Lin, MD, Chairman of the Board and CEO.
“Our nurses are the backbone of the medical care we deliver. Fulfilling the tenets of the Triple Aim – quality care, patient satisfaction, and value – isn’t possible without them,” Dr. Lin said. “Every Kelsey-Seybold nurse personifies the theme the American Nurses Association chose for the week: Nurses Make a Difference.”
Dr. Lin and other leaders note that patients generally begin their medical assessments by interacting with a nurse. Each encounter is pivotal for setting the overall tone of patients’ experiences.
Systemwide survey responses consistently find patients expressing appreciation for the work of Kelsey-Seybold nurses, describing them as kind, caring, easing pain, willing to listen, and empathetic.
“There’s just no substitute for that,” said James Hoyle, MD, FAAP, FSAHM, Medical Director of Clinic Operations. “Our nurses are truly our best ambassadors. They are vital to the wonderful connections we establish with our patients.”
The Kelsey-Seybold system currently employs 800 nurses within all facets of the organization. “As a Kelsey Seybold nurse, it is a special honor to be part of the care team and advocate for the patient,” said Cecilia Fowler, BSN, RN, Senior Director, Ambulatory Operations North.
“As a Kelsey-Seybold nurse who also works in administration, wherever we go and whatever we do, that title is remarkable for the respect it commands from other medical professionals and, most importantly, our patients,” Cecilia said. “It is something each of us holds very dear.”
Thank you, and best wishes to all Kelsey-Seybold nurses during Nurses Week 2022!
