Kelsey-Seybold Celebrates Pasadena Expansion Grand Opening

Kelsey-Seybold providers and staff celebrated the grand opening of the Pasadena Clinic expansion on Sept. 27. With 17,000 square feet of added space, Pasadena Clinic will serve this rapidly growing community’s need for local primary and specialty healthcare. The clinic first opened in 1984.

In addition to expanding primary care providers, this expansion adds more on-site specialty services, including additional rotations in adult primary care, Pulmonary Medicine, Neurology, OB/GYN, and Dermatology, as well as new rotations in Surgery, Podiatry, Urology, and Rheumatology.

“It’s been a long time in the works. The expansion is beautiful and gives us the space we need to add additional specialties,” said Melissa Mohammed, Clinic Administrator, Pasadena Clinic.

Patients were greeted with Kelsey-Seybold gifts, including wipes, sunscreen, stress balls, and hand sanitizer.

Laureen Barbay was the first patient to receive her flu immunization at the clinic and has been a Kelsey-Seybold patient for nearly 20 years.

“The expansion is wonderful. I go between here, Clear Lake Clinic, and Main Campus, and I’m so excited to see more physicians added to this location,” Mrs. Barbay said. “I liked Kelsey-Seybold so much that I left my insurance through the Teacher Retirement System for KelseyCare Advantage once I retired. I just couldn’t start over with completely new doctors – I love all of mine too much.”

Mrs. Barbay’s favorite doctor is Victor Simms, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., who started his career in medicine at Pasadena Clinic 20 years ago. Dr. Simms was managing physician at Pasadena Clinic for more than a decade and continues to see patients there in addition to his growing leadership roles within Kelsey-Seybold.

Victor Simms, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., Chief of Internal Medicine, worked on the expansion for more than eight years.

“Not only is Pasadena Clinic able to add more primary care providers, but we are also able to offer more specialty services at competitive prices. We are providing a one-stop shop in Pasadena,” Dr. Simms said.

With the new expansion, Pasadena Clinic offers specialized services to the southeast Houston community with an on-site pharmacy, laboratory, ultrasound, mammograms, advanced imaging, CT scans, and MRIs.

“Many patients who come to Pasadena Clinic are older. Having additional specialized services and care available here will save them from a long drive,” Dr. Simms said.

Clinic administrator Melissa Mohammed agrees the additional specialty services will help all patients, particularly older patients and those who live in the region – not just Pasadena.

“Adding more specialties will provide easier access for our Pasadena citizens, as well as those in Pearland, Clear Lake, and Baytown who may not want to drive downtown,” she said.

The clinic’s expansion includes seating areas, doctor’s offices and exam rooms, a second ultrasound room, a third X-ray room, and a second procedure room. With the expansion, the clinic now has 50,000 square feet.

Robin Tidwell visited Pasadena Clinic for the second time on Sept. 27 and was impressed with the expansion.

“The expansion is beautiful, like all the locations. They’re all so nice,” Mrs. Tidwell said.

Mrs. Tidwell has been a patient at Kelsey-Seybold since 1998 and has stayed with Kelsey-Seybold even though insurance changes.

“I’ve been happy with Kelsey-Seybold’s care and services,” she said.

With the expansion, the Pasadena Clinic will be able to add more doctors and more specialties. The expansion allows the Pasadena Clinic to continue to meet the “triple aim” of providing evidence-based care at an affordable price and a great patient experience, Simms said. Because the expansion allows for more specialized care under one roof, the convenience for patients is greater.

“The new expansion provides the community with one place to meet nearly all of their healthcare needs,” Dr. Simms said.
